Biba Schutz first came to jewelry making in her desire to create works of art on a smaller scale, but with a big impact. Transitioning away from graphic design and fine art, Schutz became a self-taught jewelry artist. Today, she makes eye-catching works of handcrafted jewelry from her studio in New York City. Schutz imagines a striking palette of adornment as she explores the lure of dark contrasts, textures, form and space.

Inspired by her surroundings, Schutz looks at its urban labyrinth from the inside; from every veiled shadow to the shape of architecture, down to weeds emerging between cracks in the sidewalk. During long walks, the artist takes time to deliberate as she is consumed by the nuances of the big City. She follows her intuition as inspiration strikes. Working in an array of materials, she forges, solders and hammers portions together, creating memorable expressions in volume and shape. With attention to detail, Schutz scripts her design. Every curve and contour is made with the wearer in mind. In turn, her jewelry makes one feel confident and bright. Schutz encourages one to divulge in the dimension, fluidity and intrigue of her work, as curiosity sparks in the soul.
