Biba Schutz
Drawn to the Mystery - Abstract Beauty Unfolds
“I am attracted to the challenge of materials and processes to create work that investigates the body. My jewelry is influenced by history, my memory, experiences and environment. My environment is urban. In the city of glass and concrete, I am an observer. Walking and public transportation are my library as I explore space, shadows and nature.”
Biba Schutz first came to jewelry making in her desire to create works of art on a smaller scale, but with a big impact. Transitioning away from graphic design and fine art, Schutz became a self-taught jewelry artist. Today, she makes eye-catching works of handcrafted jewelry from her studio in New York City. Schutz imagines a striking palette of adornment as she explores the lure of dark contrasts, textures, form and space.
