Carrie Adell
“You can walk millions of years on the beach. The colors tell what has happened. They’re defined like an artist’s palette. There’s infinite variety of pattern in the stripes and laminates. All the processes are embodied in the rock.”
An accomplished jewelry designer from New Jersey, Carrie Adell is known known for masterfully taking familiar and organic forms and transforming them into wearable works of art.
Ranging in style from classic to luxuriant, Adell shows her talent in the use of traditional metalworking techniques such as the Japanese Mokumé-Gane, which produces a laminate with a distinctive woodgrain appearance obtained by fusing together layers of different metals.
Using her ‘touchstones’ Adell also incorporates the Japanese technique of Shakudo, consisting of calligraphic strokes of a black gold and copper alloy over layers of gold. Inspired by the theme of nature’s energy, Adell’s touchstones are not just her signature work, but an expression of her overriding concern for the Earth, her desire to touch everyone she meets.
