Knitted silver honors love of fabric and jewelry
Ewa Jankowska loves fabric. In the 1990s, having been enchanted by traditional American quilting, she became one of the finest patchwork artists in her native Poland.
That set the stage for a monumental achievement. She invented her own technique of making jewelry of knitted silver chain. By hand, she fashions her richly textured silver “fabric” into unique necklaces, bracelets and scarves. The pieces are luxurious to touch and sparkling in appearance.
Refining her inimitable technique, Ewa gained considerable fame in Poland at the dawn of the new millennium with a legendary one-person exhibition in the renowned Art Center in Lódź. In her case, fame began with modest beginnings. After earning a fine-arts degree at Toruń University, Ewa worked for the national government. Meantime, she began making hand-knitted sweaters and opened her own workshop, paving the way for her to expand the definition of fabric.
