Peter Schmid Atelier Zobel
August 10 – September 12, 2018
Captivating Brilliance
Celebrated jewelry artist, Peter Schmid of Atelier Zobel, returns to Patina to unveil a memorable new collection, inspired by Puccini’s tender & tragic opera, Madame Butterfly.
The pieces encompass Peter’s all-new exhibition, Captivating Brilliance and is in honor of our friends at The Santa Fe Opera in this 2018 season.
The featured collection in Captivating Brilliance authenticates Peter Schmid’s attention to the intricacy of pattern. His extensive sensibility to his materials and gems are unparalleled, often using intriguing and exotic materials such as meteorite, petrified coral or ancient ceramic shard. In turn, he creates pieces that exude a brilliance and luminosity of unequivalent proportions.
Peter’s work is centered on the importance of Orientalism and Exoticism, made popular at the time of Madame Butterfly’s debut. The collection encapsulates the true essence of these periods, recognizing these influences alongside Puccini’s compelling story.
Madame Butterfly elicits a deep, emotional transformation. A young girl brought to reality of the ways of her world. Butterfly exemplifies the awakening of pure bliss and captivating feeling. What is more, the classic tale displays some of Puccini’s most expansive and heartbreakingly tender music.
“Love provokes us to create objects of beauty for the people who inspire us.”
Peter Schmid, Atelier Zobel
Ultimately, Captivating Brilliance will feature some of Peter’s most extraordinarily elegant and intricate work, such that achieves a level of exceptionality that reminds us of the inspired opera’s passionate story.
Tender, Intense and Eternal. Peter Schmid’s Captivating Brilliance is sure to capture your heart.
