Sterling silver, 24K gold, Ashanti gold weight
Peter Schmid of Atelier Zobel paints an exquisite picture in luscious, wearable adornment. Here, Schmid's muse is Gold; the precious material that bestowed great eminence upon the Ashanti court, an emissary during wartime and a prominent part of their trade, and arts & culture. What is faceted upon the central head of Schmid's bracelet is a part of Ashanti which remains just as historically prevalent as it is precious today in contemporary art. Cradled in high karat gold, an illustration in brass illuminates a refined image of shape and linear proportion. On the backside of the amulet is a base of sterling silver, with a mirror image of brushed gold, partitioning contrast and depth to the central piece. The body of the bracelet is that of leather, strung together, which may be fastened or loosened by the supple drawstring in the back. Twisting and turning, the hand is not stiff, nor the wrist constrained. Gilded, tantalizing charm, Schmid continues to tempt us with intriguing design and provocative allure with his extraordinary artistic imagination.
