Cylindrical glass beads
With discerning, masterful use of color, Claire Kahn visualizes the behavior of sound through pattern and progression. Here, purely with cylindrical glass beads, she creates a piece where the eye is taken through a stimulating spectrum that arouses feeling of movement and alteration. Deep blues promptly traverse a lighter plane of orange, which then seamlessly subsides into red. As if interlocking red into purple, the two hues become one before beginning the progression once more. Not only is the gaze intrigued by the sheer versatility of pattern, but one may also notice the subtle change of pace throughout the piece. If color were a pitch, imagine how the sound would fluctuate in the composition you see before your eyes.
This piece is part of Claire Kahn's mini series, Doppler; exploring the point where opposites attract, the artist contrives one of a kind pieces that visually communicate the natural phenomenas of sound (ie. The Doppler Effect)
