18K & 24K yellow gold, black jade, red coral
Inspired by the work of Kasimir Malevich, two stark black jade bars balancing a big red coral cabochon sit at odd angles in space.
Together, black and red are both opposites and partners. Here, each enhances the other. Here, the irregular texture of black jade strips and the slippery smoothness of red coral, set in gold, make for a dramatic brooch that can also be worn as a pendant.
Seen here is Kazimir Malevich's painting, Airplane Flying, in the permanent collection at the MOMA, from which this piece was inspired.
