Painted pine, 2024
Oratorio de Ysidro is a striking and spiritually evocative sculpture by artist Bob Cardinale, crafted entirely from painted pine. The piece serves as both an homage to faith and an exploration of artistic expression. The wood contains a natural warmth, and its grain peeks through the layers of delicate paint, giving the piece an earthy, organic feel. The painted surface is composed of muted earth tones that evoke the natural environment while creating a sense of serenity and reverence. Incorporating elements that are both familiar and symbolic, Cardinale also includes small found objects within the oratory, such as bells and crosses. This sculpture captures the essence of a small sanctuary dedicated to reflection, prayer, and devotion, while incorporating contemporary touches that make it both timeless and personal.
